As we enter into 2018 let us take the opportunity to reflect on the past year.
Exceptional customer service and support are core to our values and have remained a priority for us.
In terms of our library solutions and services, co-operative cataloguing on the WorldShare platform remains a key collaborative service that offers significant cost savings for all libraries.
Interlibrary loan received much attention in 2017 as we began the migration from the ReQuest/DRSS platform to the WorldShare ILL platform. To date, 176 institutions have been trained with the majority of libraries now live. The new ILL service is leading edge in terms of interlibrary loan and offers libraries the opportunity to perform national as well as international interlibrary loan transactions on a single platform.
We are proud to report that the National Library of South Africa (NLSA) has selected Sabinet to implement OCLC's WorldShare Management Services (WMS) and CONTENTdm as their library management and digital collection management systems. In addition, the Human Science Research Council (HSRC) has also selected WMS as their system which brings the total number of WMS libraries in South Africa to six.
On our information services side, our legal product offering has been expanded and refined to offer further value to all users. The SA ePublications service was significantly upgraded and enhanced and traffic to the site has increased beyond expectations with more that 50% of the traffic originating from outside South Africa. Production of the SA Media press clipping service has increased with more articles being added per day than ever before.
Leveraging off our digitisation expertise, we undertook outsourced digitisation projects and workshops and supplied high-end, state of the art, specialist scanning equipment to the NLSA and the National Research Foundation (NRF).
Looking forward, despite challenging times, we are optimistic and enthusiastic for the year ahead. We are sympathetic to the challenges facing institutions in all sectors and we aim to continue to support our clients to save costs and to ensure that they can offer the best services possible to their users.
We look forward to engaging with you at regional meetings, training sessions, user groups and conferences in the year ahead.
All the best for 2018!
