BUILDING BRIDGES
UNLOCKING VALUE

Rocky Ralebipi-Simela aims to create development opportunities through connecting users worldwide from within Africa.

PROFESSOR ROCKY RALEBIPI-SIMELA

National Librarian and CEO of the National Library of South Africa - one of the 2018 OCLC EMEA Regional Council Candidates.

“There is a glaring absence of African voices in issues related to the Library and Information Services Sector. My leadership role in the UN Development Agenda, both locally and internationally, has exposed me to knowledgeable and experienced librarians whose participation in OCLC would make it a truly vibrant and strengthened LIS global cooperative. Many librarians are struggling to see the relevance of OCLC in their work, especially African National Librarians who tend to think that OCLC has no relevance to them. I see my role in the regional council as that of a bridge builder - facilitating a better understanding of members’ needs and encouraging non-members to join the OCLC family and assist their countries in meeting their development agenda goals.”
