SA ePublications - the breadth and depth of African-rich content

With the focus on African research, Sabinet proudly launched the new SA ePublications platform on September 2, 2016, at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, Johannesburg. The Sabinet team, key stakeholders, thought leaders as well as Derek Watts shared in the excitement of the dynamic international platform: www.journals.co.za - enhanced with a desire to shape the future of African research.

The platform has extensive new features that clouts research efficacy; from an easy to use drop down menu, to streamlined search options and well-structured web pages. Discoverability is further amplified through third parties such as Google, Google Scholar, Ex Libris Primo Central, OCLC, Summon (Serials Solutions), CNKI, Baidu and now IngentaConnect.

Celebrating Research Excellence at the 2016 NRF Awards

Have you ever dreamed of going to the Oscars? How about being a part of the ceremony itself?

We were honoured to celebrate South Africa’s research excellence at the recent National Research Foundation Awards, giving us a taste of what it would be like centre stage at an awards ceremony!

Sabinet proudly sponsored trophies for the A-rated researchers’ category. A-rated researchers are recognised by their peers as leading international scholars in their respective fields through the high quality and impact of their recent research outputs.

It is widely agreed that knowledge creation and the ability to use that knowledge for the betterment of society represent the future of economic growth for both developed and developing nations.

Celebrating 45 years of WorldCat

26 August 2016 marks the 45th anniversary of the launch of WorldCat, the world’s most comprehensive database of information about library collections.

On August 26, 1971, the OCLC Online Union Catalog and Shared Cataloging system (now known as WorldCat) began operation.

That first day, from a single terminal, catalogers at Ohio University cataloged 133 books online. Today, WorldCat comprises more than 380 million records representing more than 2.4 billion items in libraries worldwide.

Read the blog post, as Scott Seaman, Dean of Libraries at Ohio University, shares his reflections on WorldCat and its impact on scholarship.
